Nobody else had Isaac Guerendo anywhere near pick No. 229. The Patriots did, by 66 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wilson. The Drew Dalman pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 8 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Legette at slot 34, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Patrick Paul at No. 43 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, Spencer Rattler in the 68th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Payton Wilson at pick 74. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Khyree Jackson in the 108th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took Theo Johnson at par in Round 5, Pick 12, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
De'Corian Clark in slot 182 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Isaac Guerendo, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
