The Steelers torched the value chart for Kendrick Law, taking him 62 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Stowers steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 7 of 9, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st pick they get a go-to option on the outside. A real need, handled.
Anthony Hill Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 53rd overall pick is lovely value for the linebacker. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Keionte Scott slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Eli Stowers in pick No. 85 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darrell Jackson Jr.. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Beau Stephens in slot 121 says they were not listening. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A wild overpay on Kendrick Law in the 135th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Travis Burke in the Round 5 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Good price on Jalen Stroman in pick No. 216, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Jam Miller at pick 224, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Nolan Rucci in Round 7, Pick 14 is miles ahead of his ranking. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A big swing on Jack Kelly at the 237th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
