Nobody else had Anthony Belton anywhere near No. 195. The Cowboys did, by 66 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The whole projection now runs through Shedeur Sanders; hit there and everything else looks smarter.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Henderson.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick No. 27 they get the heartbeat of the defense at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Steal is underselling it; Malaki Starks at the 33rd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They let Walter Nolen come to them and pounced at the 35th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tyler Warren in No. 41 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Alfred Collins at Round 3, Pick 3 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Jordan Burch in No. 76, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jalen Royals reach slot 83 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
TreVeyon Henderson at pick 85 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They did well to land Danny Stutsman in the 89th pick, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ajani Cornelius at pick No. 94 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Daylen Everette at the 96th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Dylan Fairchild in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach on Darius Alexander in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kevin Winston Jr. at pick No. 121 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Savion Williams in pick 126. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; Cobee Bryant in the 148th pick says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nazir Stackhouse this early at the 168th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Anthony Belton in slot 195 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
