The tape said wait; the Patriots did not. Jimmy Rolder went at slot 202, a good 28 picks before the board was ready. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Jordyn Tyson at No. 31 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Eli Stowers in slot 63. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 95th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached a country mile for Dametrious Crownover at pick No. 125, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value said wait; Mikail Kamara in pick 131 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Nate Boerkircher, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 31. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach on VJ Payne in the Round 6 slot; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Landon Robinson at pick No. 198 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jimmy Rolder at Round 6, Pick 21 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Kaelon Black at the 212th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had TJ Hall higher than pick 247, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
