Somebody in pick 125 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while DJ James, the No. 53 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
Jacobs has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Guyton at No. 45 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaylen Wright at the 57th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kris Jenkins in Round 3, Pick 25 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 90th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cole Bishop in pick 91 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Brandon Dorlus at pick No. 92. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaiah Davis well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
DJ James at pick 125 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Jarrian Jones, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Malachi Corley in pick No. 127 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow Ben Sinnott was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 14, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Curtis Jacobs in slot 162 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They liked Khristian Boyd enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Tanor Bortolini at No. 190 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
They reached a country mile for Jordan Magee at the 202nd pick, and the board is aghast. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A reach for Trevin Wallace in No. 219; a little patience would have been rewarded. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Circle this one: Jaylen Harrell at Round 7, Pick 25 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Dominique Hampton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
