The needs board said one thing and the Cowboys did another, using the 87th pick on Brandon Dorlus while quarterback, running back and other spots waited. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
On value alone, Sainristil makes the weekend a net positive. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Bortolini reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Dallas Turner in Round 1, Pick 26 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 56 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, running back and other spots to take Brandon Dorlus, an edge rusher that was not the priority.
Mike Sainristil is a better player than slot 89 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tanor Bortolini at the 174th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ryan Flournoy in the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tatum Bethune at No. 233 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Dominique Hampton at Round 7, Pick 24 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
