The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Eyabi Okie-Anoma, 61 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. The math is unkind, and the D+ follows.
Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
That McCaffrey pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Brian Thomas Jr. at slot 36 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Trey Benson slid further than he should have, and pick No. 87 is lovely value for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tommy Eichenberg in the 89th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Kingsley Suamataia at Round 3, Pick 29 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
McKinnley Jackson at Round 4, Pick 26 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for Eyabi Okie-Anoma, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board fumbled Luke McCaffrey all the way to pick No. 202, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Dwight McGlothern was still sitting there in slot 216, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ryan Flournoy in pick 219 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
