Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins drew a line under the quarterback search with Daniels: F.

by RAZORNXT · 2024 NFL Draft · 13 picks · 3 steals · 3 reaches
Value B
Need B
Trades F
Future D

Nobody else had Trey Knox anywhere near the 186th overall pick. The Dolphins did, by 49 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it.

The Dolphins indulged a want in Tampa while a need in running back stayed open. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with running back still staring back at them.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In No. 7 they get a franchise quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.19 · Pick 19 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 15
In pick No. 19 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. More want than need.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 62
Zach Frazier at Round 2, Pick 20 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 50
Good price on Junior Colson in the 55th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 49
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, T.J. Tampa adds a cornerback and leaves running back untouched.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Ja'Lynn Polk · WR · rank 70
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ja'Lynn Polk at the 83rd overall pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.30 · Pick 93 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 102
A reach on Zak Zinter in pick 93; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Malik Washington · WR · rank 96
No edge and no loss on Malik Washington in the 95th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · DeWayne Carter · DT · rank 101
DeWayne Carter in the 100th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 149
The board had Justin Eboigbe higher than pick No. 157, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Trey Knox · TE · rank 235
Trey Knox in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.25 · Pick 200 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 198
Joe Milton III at No. 200 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.19 · Pick 239 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 244
They took LaDarius Henderson at par in slot 239, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
