Call it belief, call it a gut call, but C.J. Hanson at the 242nd overall pick is 32 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Whatever J.J. McCarthy becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On value alone, Bertrand makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 26 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
They read the board right and T'Vondre Sweat was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They went early on Braden Fiske in slot 57, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
