Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The process wobbled, and the D+ is where it lands.
They are betting Jibunor proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The Flournoy steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Rome Odunze at No. 12 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Blake Corum in slot 86, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached a country mile for Maason Smith at the 87th pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
JD Bertrand at Round 6, Pick 41 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ryan Flournoy in the 220th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Nathan Thomas in pick 233, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Richard Jibunor in pick No. 244 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
