The Chiefs clearly saw something nobody else did in Erick All, taking him 70 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Their trades came out a wash either way.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They liked Max Melton enough to skip the value, taking him in the 64th overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
By-the-book stuff, Patrick Paul at pick No. 65 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Erick All at the Round 4 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cody Schrader in Round 5, Pick 39 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Evan Anderson at slot 239 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Joshua Cephus at the 252nd overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
