Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Tre Harris got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at the 180th overall pick. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A to cap it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The veteran additions, Logan Hall chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In the end it comes back to Travis Hunter, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 26th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Good price on Jack Sawyer in the 31st pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Kenneth Grant at No. 51 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Evan Stewart still on the board at pick 83. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jamon Dumas-Johnson at pick No. 84. A minor itch, scratched.
A edge rusher of that caliber at slot 115 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jonah Monheim in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Jabbar Muhammad at Round 5, Pick 19 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Rylie Mills was still sitting there in pick 153, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Noah Fifita at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Tre Harris here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Jake Briningstool in No. 185, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Jason Henderson in Round 7, Pick 1 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Steal is underselling it; Roman Hemby at the 211th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Aubrey Burks in slot 223 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
