Nobody else had Khalid Duke anywhere near the Round 7 slot. The Cowboys did, by 47 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Devonshire. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get protection for the quarterback, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A clean, defensible pick in the 56th overall pick with a little surplus value in Junior Colson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Bucky Irving at No. 87 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value said wait; Drake Nugent in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ryan Flournoy in slot 216. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled M.J. Devonshire all the way to the 233rd pick, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into Khalid Duke at slot 244, and the board did not agree. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
