Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. M.J. Devonshire, the No. 192 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 244. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Rice to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Olumuyiwa Fashanu slid further than he should have, and the Round 1 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Edgerrin Cooper in pick 56. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Brenden Rice at the 87th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Dillon Johnson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach on Jaden Crumedy in the 216th pick; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Value with a capital V on Jordan Magee in Round 7, Pick 13, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, M.J. Devonshire in slot 244, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
