You could see the war room lean forward. Evan Williams at pick No. 233 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. No fireworks, but a solid B.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Williams pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a blindside protector. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Kiran Amegadjie at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Khyree Jackson in No. 93 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Braelon Allen in the 104th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
They jumped the gun on James Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value with a capital V on Cornelius Johnson in pick No. 201, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in pick 205, where Trente Jones graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in the 211th overall pick: Curtis Jacobs for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Tanner McLachlan in the 215th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the 216th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Gabe Hall. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Myles Harden at the Round 7 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Evan Williams in pick 233 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A reach for Kimani Vidal in Round 7, Pick 24; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
