Start where it matters. The Commanders took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
If McCormick pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Drake Maye in the Round 1 slot, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for Cooper Beebe in pick No. 36, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Adisa Isaac at No. 43 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malachi Corley in the 67th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had cheaper options than Khyree Jackson at slot 78, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mason McCormick well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They went early on James Williams in pick 109, and the value did not follow. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A conviction pick on Justin Eboigbe at Round 5, Pick 3 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They jumped the gun on Walter Rouse, taking him earlier than his grade liked. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick 222 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
