After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Drake Maye and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Chop Robinson at the 36th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Patrick Paul in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They went early on Malachi Corley in slot 67, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Fair-plus on Zak Zinter, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Khyree Jackson at par in pick 103, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on James Williams in pick No. 138, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jaylan Ford at the 181st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jared Wiley at the 220th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
