The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Chau Smith-Wade slide 48 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Lloyd pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Jordan Morgan at par in the 35th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
T'Vondre Sweat is a better player than the 56th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Sedrick Van Pran in Round 3, Pick 2 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach on MarShawn Lloyd in the Round 3 slot; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Chau Smith-Wade all the way to pick No. 174, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in slot 216, with Steele Chambers worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 233 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Trey Knox at pick 244 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
