The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

Reaching for Williams left real value on the table behind him. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 7
In slot 3 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 34
Jordan Morgan in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 39
No drama and no debate, Payton Wilson went about where he belonged in pick 40. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 86
This one needs a full-page explanation: Devontez Walker in Round 3, Pick 3, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
Khyree Jackson in pick No. 82 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 102
They took Ben Sinnott at par in No. 100, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.17 · Pick 117 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 152
Mason McCormick at the 117th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · James Williams · LB · rank 173
James Williams in the 137th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 136
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nehemiah Pritchett in No. 139. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 142
Kitan Oladapo slid further than he should have, and pick 152 is lovely value for the safety. A minor itch, scratched.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 229
They paid sticker price for Garret Greenfield in the 222nd overall pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
