Maye is the plan now, and the Commanders grade out a B.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

The cost of the McCormick reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 7
Drake Maye at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 34
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Morgan. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Kamari Lassiter · CB · rank 60
Kamari Lassiter at pick No. 66 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 74
No edge and no loss on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 67th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 69
Blake Fisher in the 71st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 86
The board had cheaper options than Devontez Walker at No. 78, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
Khyree Jackson at pick 100 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 152
They talked themselves into Mason McCormick at Round 4, Pick 4, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · James Williams · LB · rank 173
They left a pile of value on the table to take James Williams this early at the 139th pick. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · AJ Barner · TE · rank 166
They jumped the gun on AJ Barner, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 229
Garret Greenfield in slot 222 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
