The Patriots torched the value chart for Drew Kendall, taking him 56 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
A quiet steal in No. 38: Luther Burden III for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value with a capital V on Jayden Higgins in pick No. 69, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on Charles Grant in slot 77; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Cam Skattebo in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Elijah Roberts in pick 144 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jordan Hancock at slot 217 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid up for Cam Jackson at No. 220 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Drew Kendall at pick 238 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
