The Bears clearly saw something nobody else did in Kamran James, taking him 107 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. The Slaughter steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
They did well to land Caleb Banks in Round 2, Pick 15, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Lee Hunter at the 57th pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Jacob Rodriguez come to them and pounced at pick 60. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jake Slaughter at the 78th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a safety like Michael Taaffe reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Devin Moore at No. 113 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaeden Roberts at the 129th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Fa'alili Fa'amoe in pick No. 239 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
They reached a country mile for Kamran James at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Thaddeus Dixon at slot 246 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
