Miami Dolphins

Best value of the weekend goes to the Dolphins for Berger: D.

The Dolphins lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. Put together, it is a D.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Reaching for Powers-Johnson left real value on the table behind him.

The Berger pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
They went early on Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 41st overall pick, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 39
T.J. Tampa slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 52
By-the-book stuff, Kiran Amegadjie at slot 53 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 74
They took Johnny Wilson at par in pick No. 71, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 79
Christian Mahogany in Round 3, Pick 19 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · McKinnley Jackson · DL · rank 87
Nothing to complain about; McKinnley Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 89
No edge and no loss on Sedrick Van Pran in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
R5.19 · Pick 155 · McCallan Castles · TE · rank 154
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on McCallan Castles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 181
A clean, defensible pick in the 186th pick with a little surplus value in Jaylan Ford. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.24 · Pick 199 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 193
Fair-plus on Josh Proctor, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 207
De'Corian Clark in Round 6, Pick 28 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.19 · Pick 239 · Jalen Berger · RB · rank 212
Jalen Berger in slot 239 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
