The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chargers watched Omar Speights slide 18 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Reaching for Allen left real value on the table behind him. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Nothing to complain about; Marvin Harrison Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach for Edgerrin Cooper in Round 2, Pick 18; a little patience would have been rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
T'Vondre Sweat in the 54th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Adisa Isaac at pick No. 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Blake Corum at slot 89. It fills a real need, too.
Nice patience on Kris Abrams-Draine, who had no business lasting to the 137th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had cheaper options than Braelon Allen at pick 142, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Omar Speights in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
