Start where it matters. The Commanders took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is McMillan. They are betting Sanders proves the room right and everyone else wrong. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
They reached into another round for Ja'Tavion Sanders, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Graham Barton in pick No. 36 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Edgerrin Cooper. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Good price on Jonathon Brooks in No. 67, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jalen McMillan at slot 100 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A slide stopped in the 135th pick, with Cole Bishop worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Cam Hart in pick 141 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Trey Knox in the Round 6 slot, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They jumped the gun on Matthew Jones, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sheridan Jones slipping to slot 223 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
