Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cardinals were there to profit. Jihaad Campbell, the No. 40 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 78.
Lampkin has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get juice off the edge, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Walter Nolen in pick 47 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jihaad Campbell at the 78th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Jack Nelson enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Willie Lampkin in the 153rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
