Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jaxson Dart got past him. The Cardinals do not have to explain a thing at the 118th overall pick. No fireworks, but a solid B.
If Ratledge pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 18th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tate Ratledge this early at pick 47. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Donovan Ezeiruaku in the 78th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let an edge rusher like Jared Ivey reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaxson Dart in slot 118 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 36 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Jack Nelson still on the board at pick No. 153. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Vernon Broughton at No. 187 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Nick Nash at the 195th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jack Kiser in the 212th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Cobee Bryant in slot 236, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
