You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cardinals took Mason Reiger at Round 3, Pick 33, roughly 53 spots before his name belonged. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Kayden McDonald at par in the 18th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Omar Cooper Jr. went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 2. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on Anthony Hill Jr. in pick 49, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They read the board right and Gabe Jacas was the payoff at the 65th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had Connor Lew higher than pick No. 92, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Mason Reiger at the 97th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Sam Roush come to them and pounced at the 104th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nice patience on Jonah Coleman, who had no business lasting to pick 112. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bishop Fitzgerald in the Round 4 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A straight-up fair deal on Chris McClellan at No. 143, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Hezekiah Masses at slot 151 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A quiet steal in Round 6, Pick 2: Travis Burke for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jeff Caldwell reach pick No. 217 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sawyer Robertson at the 227th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
