The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cardinals watched TreVeyon Henderson slide 53 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Thornton Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Matthew Golden in the 47th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Jihaad Campbell all the way to pick No. 78, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
TreVeyon Henderson at the 113th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy bit of business in slot 117, where Luke Kandra graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jeffrey Bassa in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 152, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
