Future B-

When a board-topper like Darius Alexander slides to No. 200, you do not overthink it, and the Cardinals did not. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. The cost of the Skattebo reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The veteran additions, Lukas Van Ness chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.23 · Pick 23 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 19
In pick No. 23 they get an anchor for the defensive front. A real need, handled.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Grey Zabel · OT · rank 33
They read the board right and Grey Zabel was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 15. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 26
They will replay Malaki Starks at No. 54 for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.17 · Pick 81 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 105
Cam Skattebo in the 81st pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Harold Fannin Jr. · TE · rank 52
Harold Fannin Jr. at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.13 · Pick 114 · Jaylin Noel · WR · rank 102
Jaylin Noel is a better player than pick 114 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.19 · Pick 120 · Jared Wilson · C · rank 109
A slide stopped in the 120th overall pick, with Jared Wilson worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.14 · Pick 153 · Cody Simon · LB · rank 136
They let Cody Simon come to them and pounced at slot 153. The roster fit checks out.
R5.15 · Pick 154 · Logan Brown · OT · rank 156
They took Logan Brown at par in slot 154, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.22 · Pick 200 · Darius Alexander · DT · rank 131
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Darius Alexander reach pick 200 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.21 · Pick 239 · Ricky White III · WR · rank 207
Circle this one: Ricky White III at pick No. 239 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
