You build a draft on nights like this. Lathan Ransom had no business being available in Round 5, Pick 6, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
If Conner pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They will replay Tyler Warren at No. 38 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Elic Ayomanor in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A conviction pick on Charles Grant at pick 77 that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Cam Skattebo at the 106th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Lathan Ransom at the 144th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Hancock at pick No. 217, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for Cam Jackson in Round 7, Pick 4, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Hayden Conner at Round 7, Pick 22 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
