Dallas Cowboys

Good, not great, for the Cowboys: B.

The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Barryn Sorrell went at No. 204, a good 111 picks before the board was ready. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

Brown falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In the 12th overall pick they get a three-down runner at a price that makes it sweeter.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 23
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in pick No. 44, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Maxwell Hairston · CB · rank 73
Maxwell Hairston in the 76th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.11 · Pick 149 · Dillon Gabriel · QB · rank 128
Dillon Gabriel at pick 149 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Nick Nash · WR · rank 142
You do not let a wide receiver like Nick Nash reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.36 · Pick 174 · Logan Brown · OT · rank 143
The board fumbled Logan Brown all the way to No. 174, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.28 · Pick 204 · Barryn Sorrell · LB-EDGE · rank 315
They left a pile of value on the table to take Barryn Sorrell this early at No. 204. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R6.35 · Pick 211 · John Williams · OT · rank 242
John Williams at pick No. 211 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Jimmy Horn Jr. · WR · rank 335
Jimmy Horn Jr. at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Francisco Mauigoa · LB · rank 285
A big swing on Francisco Mauigoa at pick 247, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
