You can draft well and still miss the point. The Cowboys did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Watts pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Sweat has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat at No. 56 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, MarShawn Lloyd at pick No. 87 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tahj Washington. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaylan Ford at the 216th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Julian Pearl went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ryan Watts at slot 244 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
