Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent Round 5, Pick 38 on Trevin Wallace, a name the board had a full 59 spots lower.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They banked enough surplus on Flournoy to cover a lot of smaller sins.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia at No. 56 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for Trey Benson at the 73rd pick when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
McKinnley Jackson in the Round 3 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They talked themselves into Trevin Wallace at pick No. 174, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Johnny Dixon all the way to the 216th overall pick, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Ryan Flournoy was still sitting there in slot 233, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Khalid Duke this early at the Round 7 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
