The Cowboys did not so much draft Trevin Wallace as overpay for him, 58 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Payton Wilson at pick 56 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value said wait; McKinnley Jackson in the 87th pick says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Trevin Wallace, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Caedan Wallace at the 216th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Myles Harden at Round 7, Pick 13 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fair-plus on Tayvion Robinson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wild overpay on Eyabi Okie-Anoma in the 244th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It adds depth where they could use a little.
