Nobody else had Trevin Wallace anywhere near the Round 5 slot. The Cowboys did, by 60 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The Fashanu value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
The board fumbled Marvin Harrison Jr. all the way to slot 24, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Olumuyiwa Fashanu at the 56th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 87 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Trevin Wallace at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Rasheen Ali higher than No. 216, and the running back fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 233 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A big swing on Solomon Byrd at pick No. 244, well ahead of any board in the building. It adds depth where they could use a little.
