Somebody in slot 213 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Jaylan Ford, the No. 195 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They will need Rice to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Zach Frazier at pick No. 56 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Brenden Rice at the 87th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Isaac Guerendo at Round 5, Pick 37 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylan Ford at slot 213 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let Garret Greenfield come to them and pounced at No. 231. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
