The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Isaiah Williams, the No. 181 name on the board, sitting there at No. 233 like a gift left on the doorstep. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
If Nugent pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Trey Benson in pick No. 56 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
They left a pile of value on the table to take McKinnley Jackson this early at the 87th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A big swing on Drake Nugent at No. 174, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid a round early for Trevin Wallace in slot 216, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 13 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dominique Hampton at the Round 7 slot is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
