The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Johnny Dixon fell into No. 233.
The Jeffcoat pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy bit of business in the Round 1 slot, where Olumuyiwa Fashanu graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Zach Frazier at the 56th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, MarShawn Lloyd at pick No. 87 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach for Curtis Jacobs in slot 174; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jha'Quan Jackson at No. 216 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Johnny Dixon at Round 7, Pick 13 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; Trajan Jeffcoat in the 244th pick says they were not listening. It adds depth where they could use a little.
