When a board-topper like Jaylin Simpson slides to the Round 6 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They will need Jackson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Marvin Harrison Jr. in No. 24, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Graham Barton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, MarShawn Lloyd in the 101st pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
McKinnley Jackson at slot 141 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nothing to complain about; Caedan Wallace went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They went early on Curtis Jacobs in pick No. 174, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylin Simpson at pick 216 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Eric Watts in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Julian Pearl in the Round 7 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Joshua Cephus at No. 244 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
