The Cowboys bet big and early on Trevin Wallace, 59 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Harrison Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
They reached into another round for Christian Mahogany, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Bucky Irving in the 87th pick, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
McKinnley Jackson at Round 3, Pick 34 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Trevin Wallace in No. 174 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Fair-plus on Caedan Wallace, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A quiet steal in the 233rd overall pick: Sheridan Jones for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Khalid Duke at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
