You build a draft on nights like this. Isaiah Williams had no business being available in pick 244, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Duke pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Amarius Mims in the Round 2 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Mekhi Wingo at pick 87 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Isaac Guerendo in the 174th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached into another round for Trevin Wallace, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Khalid Duke at No. 233 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Somehow Isaiah Williams was still sitting there in pick No. 244, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
