The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Ray Davis, the No. 96 name on the board, sitting there at slot 174 like a gift left on the doorstep. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They will need Cephus to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 24 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on MarShawn Lloyd. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ricky Pearsall in the 90th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They robbed the room for Ray Davis here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Nathaniel Watson for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Decamerion Richardson at the 226th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Justin Eboigbe in pick No. 233 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joshua Cephus this early at the 244th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
