Call it larceny. Byron Murphy II sat on the board until slot 87, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Reaching for Wallace left real value on the table behind him. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy bit of business in the 24th overall pick, where Dallas Turner graded well above the range. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Steal is underselling it; Taliese Fuaga at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Byron Murphy II in the 87th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trevin Wallace. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Rasheen Ali at Round 6, Pick 41 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let a wide receiver like Tahj Washington reach slot 233 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Matt Lee at pick No. 244 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
