When a board-topper like Jeffrey Bassa slides to the Round 7 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.
The Johnson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 10 they get juice off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
You do not let a linebacker like Jalon Walker reach pick 56 and blink. They did not. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tez Johnson in the 75th overall pick, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
JT Tuimoloau in pick No. 80 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Quinshon Judkins slid further than he should have, and the 87th pick is lovely value for the running back. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jake Majors in slot 196 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Billy Bowman Jr. in Round 7, Pick 16 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Ollie Gordon II at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Jeffrey Bassa at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
