You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Trevin Wallace in slot 87.
They banked enough surplus on McGlothern to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Rome Odunze come to them and pounced at pick 24. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Kingsley Suamataia at par in No. 56, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached into another round for Trevin Wallace, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Isaiah Davis at pick No. 174 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dwight McGlothern in the 216th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Isaiah Williams still on the board at the 233rd pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Johnny Dixon at Round 7, Pick 24 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
