The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 32 spots for Isaac Guerendo, and value like that does not grow back.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at No. 25 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 41 when waiting would have done the job. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Graham Barton at the 57th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reach on Tykee Smith in slot 88; the board had better options right there. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Max Melton well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dylan Laube in pick 126, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Jaylen Wright in pick No. 168, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had cheaper options than Gabe Hall at pick 203, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They let Christian Jones come to them and pounced at the 216th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Isaac Guerendo at Round 7, Pick 23 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Trey Taylor at No. 251 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
