The phones were a trap the Chiefs kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
They banked enough surplus on Hancock to cover a lot of smaller sins. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 2 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a two-high chess piece, outstanding value to boot.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 64th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Circle this one: Jonah Savaiinaea at No. 66 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Ajani Cornelius at pick 96 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jordan Hancock at Round 5, Pick 27 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They paid sticker price for Jonah Coleman in slot 166, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
