If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Chargers, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Sturdivant steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Hart pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Zack Moss gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Cooper DeJean in Round 1, Pick 15, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Byron Murphy II in the 46th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy bit of business in the 57th pick, where Tyler Guyton graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick 69 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Marist Liufau at No. 84, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They took Michael Hall Jr. at par in slot 92, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Marshawn Kneeland in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had cheaper options than Cam Hart at pick 125, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had J. Michael Sturdivant higher than the Round 6 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
