There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chargers started one anyway for AJ Barner, 64 picks ahead of schedule.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Haynesworth. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a weapon on the perimeter, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quinyon Mitchell at No. 37 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at pick No. 69 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Michael Barrett at slot 132 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
AJ Barner at the 139th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on LaDarius Henderson, who had no business lasting to the 183rd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Sincere Haynesworth still on the board at pick 214. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach for Brevyn Spann-Ford in pick No. 223; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
DeMonte Capehart at slot 256 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
